What Is a JFIF File?
JFIF stands for JPEG File Interchange Format. It’s one of the standard ways JPEG images are stored, so a .jfif file holds the same kind of image data as a .jpg file. Only the file extension is different.
The problem is that many websites, apps, and upload forms only accept files ending in .jpg or .jpeg, so they reject .jfif images even though the picture inside is a normal JPEG.
Why Convert JFIF to JPG?
Saving the image with the .jpg extension makes it work everywhere a JPG is expected. Converting a JFIF file to JPG lets you:
- Upload it to forms, job sites, and social media that reject .jfif
- Open it in any photo viewer or editing app
- Attach it to emails and documents without issues
- Share it with people whose devices don’t recognize .jfif

Frequently Asked Questions
Is JFIF the same as JPG?
Yes, for practical purposes. JFIF (JPEG File Interchange Format) is a standard way of storing JPEG images, so a .jfif file and a .jpg file contain the same kind of image data. The only real difference is the file extension.
Is this JFIF to JPG converter free?
Yes. The converter is completely free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many images you convert.
Will converting JFIF to JPG reduce image quality?
No. Because a JFIF file already contains JPEG data, the converter saves the original image data with a .jpg extension instead of compressing it again, so the quality is exactly the same.
Why are my images saving as JFIF?
On some Windows computers, a system setting links JPEG images to the .jfif extension, so pictures saved from a web browser end up as .jfif files. The image itself is still a normal JPEG.
Can I just rename a .jfif file to .jpg?
In most cases, yes. This tool does the same thing safely: it checks that the file really contains JPEG data first, and it works on phones and tablets where changing a file extension is difficult.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your web browser, so your files never leave your device.
Does it keep photo details like date and camera info?
Yes. Since the image data isn’t changed, any embedded details stay in the JPG, including the date taken, camera model, and location if the photo has it. Keep this in mind before sharing photos publicly.
